HARARE, Mar.20 (NewsDayLive) - The government has stepped up efforts to decentralise its payment system, with a team of finance officials drawn from various government departments attending a training programme in India where the system has already been rolled out, NewsDayLive has learnt.Industry and Commerce minister Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu announced the development on Wednesday while addressing legislators during the  question-and-answer session.  "As we speak, officials from the Ministry of Finance and the central bank, from our ministry and the security agencies have been assigned to India where they will study a central payment system where SMEs (small and medium enterprises) in India have successfully formalised and are contributing to the fiscus," Ndlovu said.

He said the plan to decentralise the government's payment system was part of a broader strategy to promote ease of doing business and address the country's economic challenges.
