BULAWAYO, Jan 27 (NewsDayLive) - Two members of an apostolic church died on the spot while 10 others were left injured Sunday morning after being run over by a motorist while coming from a church service.

Police identified the deceased as Monica Tichava (41) and Loraine Shoko (17), both  from Nketa 6 high-density suburb.

“Circumstances are that on January 26 at 5am, a male adult aged 29 years of Gwabalanda, Bulawayo, was driving a silver Honda Fit along Nketa drive with 3 passengers on board (when) he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and hit 11 pedestrians who were walking along the same direction,” said acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele. 

“As a result of the accident, two pedestrians were killed and nine were injured, while also a passenger from the motor vehicle was injured, bringing the number of injured people to 10. The people were ferried to Mpilo Central hospital for treatment, while the deceased were conveyed to United Bulawayo Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.”

Msebele said the cause of the accident was due to speeding, adding that the driver faces a culpable homicide charge.
