INFORMATION minister, Jenfan Muswere, has said his ministry has upped the tempo for journalists to generate content by inviting ministers for interviews and provincial tours.
In an interview with NewsDay at his Munhumutapa offices in the capital on Friday, Muswere outlined his vision which he believes will improve the standards of journalism in the country.
Government has commenced provincial media tours of signature projects that were carried out last year starting with Harare before touring Mashonaland East and Manicaland provinces, respectively.
The provincial media tours are heading to other provinces.
“The provincial tours which we are doing are meant to generate content for you journalists, I met editors and we discussed the best way we can generate content in our newspapers and other online publications,” Muswere said.
“Journalists are given a chance to interview sources of their news, despite giving transport and other necessities people might argue that we might interfere on the type of questions, no we don’t operate that way, everyone is bound to ask the question he or she wants.

“We are going to Bulawayo where we are going to give journalists a chance to interview captains of industry and l think that way we are going to see a lot of news,” he added.
Muswere said they had since adopted a new strategy where they would invite ministers for interviews.
“We are inviting ministers for interviews to discuss their projects and many have been responding,” he said.
Asked about some ministers who have been reportedly resisting to be interviewed by the Press Muswere he said would simply write a report to President Emmerson Mnangagwa if that happens.
“Look here, my job is to facilitate for you to interview ministers, if he or she refuses, I will simply write a report to President Emmerson Mnangagwa. I was given that mandate by President Mnangagwa,” he said.
“On Monday [today] we have invited Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Torerayi Moyo so that you can interview him on the issues to do with schools opening. We have also invited Information Communication and Technology minister Tatenda Mavetera," he said.
