LEADING entrepreneur and founder of the Econet Group, Strive Masiyiwa, was on Thursday honoured at the Zimbabwe ICT Excellence Awards held at Rainbow Towers Hotel for his contributions to innovation and technology.
The event marked a significant history for the country’s technology sector after it has been suspended for a decade.
The awards recognised excellence in various categories, including Best Journalist of the Year, Best Social Media Influencer and Best ICT Industry Disruptor, among other categories.
Speaking at the ceremony, ICT minister Tatenda Mavetera said the 2024 ICT Excellence Awards in Zimbabwe hold significant importance as they recognise and celebrate outstanding achievement in the field of technology.
“The decade-long silence of not honouring our telecommunications sector heroes and heroines comes an end tonight,” she said.
“By honouring those who demonstrate exceptional performance and quality in their ICT initiatives, these awards foster a culture of excellence that is essential for both the public and private sectors.”
