THE ruling Zanu PF party has moved in to rein errant district co-ordinating committee (DCC) leaders who abusing their powers to support aspiring candidates in their areas post-election.
In a letter dated October 2, Zanu PF national political commissar Munyaradzi Machacha said the politburo was seized with the matter and accused the DCC leaders of making executive decisions outside their mandate.
“This is contrary to the party constitution, Article 13 Section 154 on the powers and functions of the DCC, which states that ‘The district co-ordinating committee shall not make any executive decision. All executive decisions shall be referred to the provincial executive council and provincial co-ordinating committee’,” Machacha said in the letter.
“Members of the DCC have resurrected the role previously played by the old dissolved DCCs of becoming kingmakers and also disruptive behaviour by some members of DCC, who are already on the ground campaigning for aspiring candidates and demonising sitting National Assembly members.”
Machacha added that the tendency by the DCCs to hold meetings and only inviting the 22 elected members, leaving out the rest of the leadership in the districts, is contrary to the party’s constitution Article 13 Section 143 to Section 144(36) which outlines membership of the DCC beyond elected members.
He warned the DCC leaders to desist from reactionary conduct saying going forward, the party will take severe disciplinary measures against those found on the wrong side.
