A Masvingo man, who refused to pay a sex worker and threatened to shoot her after demanding her dues, was last week convicted on two counts of contravening the Firearms Act.Tafadzwa Magombedze pleaded guilty to both counts and will be sentenced on Wednesday this week.The incident happened on May 9, 2024.

The court heard that a dispute arose after the convict refused to pay the commercial sex worker for services rendered, accusing her of stealing his money. In the ensuing melee, he drew out a pistol and fired a warning shot in a bid to scare her off.

The complainant later made a police report, leading to the recovery of the pistol, four live rounds of ammunition, and a spent cartridge.

Investigations established that the pistol was certified for the protection of cash and bullion in transit only.
