A CASHBOOK clerk for National Foods Limited has been dragged to the magistrates’ courts in Harare for allegedly defrauding his employer of US$17 000.
National Foods was represented by Bhoki Nyambo.
Cale Sibanda (57) appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Tuesday this week and was remanded out of custody to October 10 after the State consented to a bail of US$200.
Prosecutor Zebidiah Bofu told the court that during the period from August 2022 and June this year, Sibanda misrepresented to his superiors by excluding himself from schedules of petty cash expenses and stock take allowances.
After management had verified and authorised the payments, Sibanda would edit the electronic document to include his name and that of his accomplice Nyarai Gumberu and their MyCash account numbers.
Sibanda would allegedly send a payment instruction to MyCash.

The court also heard that National Foods later discovered the fraudulent activities and invited Sibanda to explain himself, but he immediately resigned from the company. Nyambo then reported the matter to the police, leading to Sibanda’s arrest.
National Foods was prejudiced of US$17 783 and nothing was recovered.
