AFRO-FUSION band Fusion 5 Mangwiro will soon be releasing its second album titled Marunje in phases, a single track at a time, ahead of the grand finale album launch sometime in September.

Band spokesperson and vocalist Brian Maguta said the album Marunje carried the songs Zuva, Mvura, Amai, Sesedzo, Marunje, Harare and Nguruve Yemusango, which is a blend of prominent music forms and traditions from Zimbabwe, Africa and China.

Fusion 5 Mangwiro, which is made up of Maguta, Aaron Manyati and Gilbert Gwatidzo, sings in English, Shona, Mandarin and is at times backed by the Those Boys Vacho band, especially when they are performing for a big audience.

During the just-ended National Arts Merit Awards (Nama), Fusion Five 5 Mangwiro staged a well-co-ordinated performance, sending everyone into a frenzy.

In yet another performance, Fusion 5 Mangwiro and its backing group Those Boys Vacho belted out songs from its two albums Mixed Feelings and Marunje at Gava’s Restaurant in Harare for five hours.

In between, it would engage the crowd with its sometimes slow and soft Afro-fusion instrumentals.

The widely-travelled Dream Star Troupe winners, Fusion 5 Mangwiro, which was groomed by the China Zimbabwe Exchange Centre in China some time back, has a good stage presence and aura.

At Gava’s, the trio of Fusion 5 Mangwiro was gorgeously dressed in white costumes and fluid in their expressions as they showcased their vocal and instrumental dexterity performing songs from their two music albums Mixed Feelings and Marunje, respectively.

Maguta, a Fusion 5 Mangwiro vocalist and Jembe drum player, said: “This is the chilliest show we have ever performed, where all the audience are seated and showing enjoyment of both music and their meals.

“What we are good at is making music and we believe it is the job of our audience to make each and every one of our songs a hit.

“We are done with recording our second album titled Marunje, which has songs like Zuva, Mvura, Amai, Sesedzo, Marunje (title track), Harare and Nguruve Yemusango, which is a blend of prominent music forms and traditions from Zimbabwe, Africa and China.”

He added: “We will drop a single at a time until such time when we are ready and have a strong partnership for the grand finale launch of the album.”

Added Maguta “During this whole space of time we wish to make adequate preparations for our forthcoming local and international tours.

“Our international tours shall include Kenya, Mzansi and eventually China. We take this as a privilege and honour to perform at places like Gava’s, where several corporate leaders and influential people come and witness for themselves the richness of Zimbabwean music.

“We hope this whole experience helps in getting Fusion 5 Mangwiro known and getting closer to people and eventually meeting bigger crowds in the future.”

Fusion 5 Mangwiro is a culturally and musically multi-faceted outfit and in addition to performing at concerts the band lifts morale during breakfast and conference meetings.
