Leonard Chibhamu, a renowned Zimbabwean filmmaker and artist, has been making waves in his community through his innovative initiatives.
His remarkable story recently earned him recognition at the inaugural List Awards, hosted by Identities Media.
The inaugural List Awards featured 12 categories, including Business Impact, Humanitarian Impact, Social Impact and Entertainment Impact, four of which went to the public vote allowing the community to participate in recognising outstanding individuals.
Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style Chibhamu said: “ I am really happy to receive the award among fellow nominees in Africa. The award was primarily on the impact I have had on the community and hope it will motivate people to go back and have confidence to work with communities that raised them.”
Founded by Advocate Nyaradzo Mashayamombe, the List Awards aim to promote transparency, accountability and inclusivity, honouring deserving individuals who have made significant contributions to society.
Chibhamu's journey began with the establishment of Manyene Chivhu Arts Association, a community-driven initiative that empowers local talent and promotes arts development. His brainchild, Village Secrets, a drama series, has been airing on ZBC TV since 2017 and has also been featured on JIT TV in South Africa.
Through Manyene Chivhu Arts Association, Chibhamu has provided opportunities to over a thousand people from his community to engage in the arts, many of whom had never acted before. His initiative has not only showcased local talent but also addressed social issues affecting the community.
His success extends beyond the arts. He has also ventured into music, releasing two gospel albums. Chibhamu's commitment to community development and empowerment has inspired many, demonstrating the potential for creative initiatives to drive positive change.
The List Awards recognition has further energised Chibhamu's passion for community development.
"This award has motivated me to continue working tirelessly for my community," he said.
As he continues to inspire others through his work, his story serves as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives and the impact one person can have.
