BERNARD Hatirarame, creative director and founder of Scarless Designs, took home the coveted gong for Excellence in Fashion Industry at the just-held African Influencer Awards.

The glittering ceremony, which is increasingly gaining prestige, took place on Saturday night at Impala Events along Khami Road in Bulawayo.

It boasted a well-to-do guest list which included captains of industry and academic stars.

Ministers were invited as well, but could not attend due to other commitments and, instead, sent representatives.

Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style on the red carpet after winning, Hatirarame said the recognition solidified Scarless’ position as a leading force in African fashion, showcasing the brand’s exceptional talent and dedication to promoting African creativity.

“We’re thrilled and humbled by this recognition. I want to say thank you so much to the Afrluencers for the recognition of the hard work we put in day and night. It’s an honour and blessing,” he said.

“At the same time, this gives me courage to do more and be creative in my space. Of course, we wouldn’t exist without the clients who actually buy our products. So to everyone who has so much thought of wearing Scarless thank you, let’s keep working.”

Added Hatirarame: “This award is not just a victory for Scarless, but for the entire fashion community. We’re proud to be part of this vibrant industry, pushing boundaries and telling African stories through fashion.”

Hatirarame’s designs have captivated audiences with their unique detail and modern style, having become synonymous with elegance, sophistication and pop culture.

When asked about his inspiration, Hatirarame responded: “The global village is incredibly rich and diverse. I draw inspiration from our heritage, from the vibrant colours to the intricate pattern as well as from all over really.

“At Scarless, we are not limited to one particular identity, but we are able to blend or fuse various flavours to cater for the needs of our clients. Our goal is to showcase greatness to the world, one design at a time.”

This award marks a significant milestone for Scarless, poised to take the global fashion stage by storm as Hatirarame says he hopes to someday dress attendees at  world stages like the Met Gala, Academy Awards of Merit, Golden Globes, Emmys and The Grammys.

Last year, he won an award under the same category at the Bulawayo Arts Awards.

Although the fashion fundi-in-the-making is based in Bulawayo, he has of late been criss-crossing the country due to the high demand for his suits by groomsmen and graduands, among others.
