PERCUSSIONIST Kudzai Vincet Muwori, whose stage nameis Wowrae, has released his debut song titled Alive When I’m Alone where he mourns the loss of his best friend.
The song features songstress Tahle WeDzinza, born Robin Ketahle Anesu Dawani.
“The song comes months after I lost my best friend, Godwin Chigumira, of about 18 years,” he said.
“To begin with, this is my first single that I’ve worked on. It has always been a vision I had to make original music, with marimba being the leading instrument, and incorporating other live percussion instruments.”
Wowrae said he has been trying to heal over months and the song is a literal expression of his grief.
“'It’s about how I’ve been living on a daily basis, having to put aside emotions when teaching and performing. When I’m alone at home, that’s when reality sinks in and it hasn’t been easy,” he said.

“'Simply put, I have just been trying to feel alive when I’m alone. The song is brought alive by Tahle WeDzinza’s vocals and lyrics, and amazing artistry. Her amazing voice takes you on a journey from the start to the end.”
Wowrae urged listeners “to feel okay even when alone”, adding that dealing with emotions does not make one any weaker than the next person.
“On the contrary, this song is a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel, and reaching it. You will be okay, and life will be okay. Be happy and positive,” he said.
The percussionist said Chigumira passed away last year on October 11, with the release of the song coming a year after the death.
“'We have a challenge of mental health issues on the rise in our generation, and I would like to believe this song was inspired by my own challenges with emotions,” Wowrae said.
“Men find it difficult to open up to other people about issues troubling them, but I would like to think that accepting that you are not alright is the first step. It is okay to let your emotions out and cry. Talk to someone, there is always someone to listen.”
