RISING singer Kimberly “Kim” Makumbe has encouraged fellow female artistes to work hard to beat stereotypes imposed on them by society.
Makumbe is happy to have been featured on Mashoko, a song off urban groover ExQ’s latest album Enoch, which is getting positive responses on various digital platforms.
Makumbe is the only female featured on this album, which also features heavy weights across genres such as Jah Prayzah (born Mukudzeyi Mukombe), hip-hop singers Holy Ten (Mukudzei Chitsama) and Voltz JT (Nkosilathi Sibiya), dancehall singers Freeman (Emegy Slyvester Chizanga), Nutty O (Carrington Simbarashe Chiwadzwa) and Enzo Ishall (Stephen Kudzanai Mamhare).
In an interview with NewsDay Life & Style, Makumbe said it was a great achievement to be part of the masterpiece with giants in the music industry.
“When the opportunity came for us to work on a project, it came out brilliantly. I got into the music industry with a clear vision and understanding that teamwork makes the dream work,” she said.
This was her first collaboration and she is determined to strengthen Zimbabwean music’s position on the international stage.

“The goal is to show the world that Zimbabwe has so much to offer, not just in wealth, but also in terms of music and when my brand takes the world stage, which it will, everybody wins,” she noted.
Makumbe, who launched her musical journey in 2019, has released singles carrying different themes.
Her debut song Do You, released in 2019, is about identity; Sheego (2020) is about women empowerment; Body (2023) is about body positivity, while Must Be Love and Mashoko are both love-themed.
Makumbe said her type of music allowed her to explore different sounds and create new genres like trap Jiti, featured on the song Must Be Love.
Her efforts are slowly being noticed on the showbiz scene after being nominated for the Best RnB/Soul category at the Zimbabwe Music Awards 2023.
