INFERTILITY is when a male is not able to sire or female cannot conceive due to a problem with the reproductive system.
This subject has seen local top female filmmakers Nakai Beauty Tsuro and Amanda Ranganawa joining hands on Broken Lives, a drama series that traces the plight of infertile people in marriages.
Shot and filmed in Mutare, the series was written and produced by Tsuro with Ranganawa as production manager. The two have of late been addressing societal issues in their productions.
The storyline revolves around two best friends, Rudo and Moira, who are both struggling to have children in their marriages.
Rudo’s plight is due to her husband not being able to sire, while Moira has a much-complicated issue, she keeps having miscarriages doctored by her father-in-law who sacrifices her babies in his business rituals.

The love of storytelling and the need to unveil disturbing issues pushed Tsuro to write the series.
“I felt there were a lot of stories we fail to interpret in our own voices that we experience as Africans, better still Zimbabweans. It is high time we embraced our own way of living using motion pictures to our understanding,” she noted.
“The message on Broken Lives is that life is not always laid out as we plan it or to our expectation. In all things that go the other way, we should always know that there is another day to try again and if things are not working to our expectation, giving up should never be an option.”
Tsuro is expecting the audience to understand her storyline as she tries to simplify the subject for easy interpretation in the 52 episodes of the series.
The Broken Lives cast comprises seasoned characters such as Sarah Makoni, Takura Kachambwa popularly known as Tunga, Kudzai Makusha and Tevin Arthur.
Tsuro’s body of work includes feature films, documentaries and television series that include The Long Night, Mwanasikana, Trauma and Stress, Faking It, Cultured and Resilient: Chimanimani and Chipinge.
The productions have been shown on both local and international platforms such as Africa Magic, Iroko TV, Zambezi Magic and ZTV.
