BY TENDAI SAUTA LOCAL musician, Evans “Pfumela” Mapfumo backed by his Kiat Africa band gave diners a taste of his Afro soul jazz music at a fundraising concert at the City Library in Harare on Saturday.
The concert was organised as part of his fundraising campaign for a performance at the forthcoming annual Sauti-Za-Buzara Festival scheduled for February 11 to 13 in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
Arts and culture promotion and development officer in the Arts Youth Sports and Culture ministry Milton Masaka said it was their mandate to uplift and promote arts in its diversity, adding that they were looking forward to assisting Pfumela in terms of logistics.
Dancehall promoter MC Mannex donated an air ticket to Pfumela.
“I came here to support this event and we are going to cover Evan’s flight expenses. Evans is going to represent us all and we challenge him to make us proud,” he said.
Tafi Matiure said: “Fellow musicians and friends from college and high school are in support of Evans. The trip to Zanzibar is going to be amazing. I urge him to represent all of us and be true to himself…. such a unique musician.”

At the concert, diners rose to their feet to dance to up-tempo songs by Pfumela namely Africa, Ndanga Ndakarasika, Maneta and Kaupenyu.
Guests were also treated to good music by supporting acts Mwenje Matole, Millie Kadzungura, Update and Thulani Machisa.
