The Muparutsa Fellowship is the first ever initiative of Almasi honouring the late veteran actor, director and producer Walter Lambert Muparutsa.

Mutumbi said he was honoured to be the inaugural recipient of the fellowship award.

He assured his benefactors that they would not regret their investment in “my craft, my talent, my skills, my passion and my purpose”.

Almasi Collaborative Arts artistic director Elizabeth Muchemwa said the fellowship would help Mutumbi further his studies in the US.

“We are awarding Tafadzwa Bob Mutumbi with the Walter Muparutsa Fellowship to further his Physical Theatre studies at the Del Arte International School for Physical Theatre in the US,” she said during the award ceremony.

She said Mutumbi should be able to teach others abroad and back home.

Mutumbi said the late Muparutsa was his mentor and helped him sharpen his craft.

“Walter Muparutsa was someone I could go to for advice especially when we used to work together in a radio production Kuziva Mbuya Huudzwa where I did my acting and co-ordinating the whole production,” he said.

The fellowship’s purpose is to facilitate African dramatic artistes of exceptional ability and promise who have economic need with their professional and educational development.

The grant provides the artistes with an opportunity to focus exclusively on their artistic development.
