HARARE, Mar.19 (NewsDay Live) - Budget airline fastjet Zimbabwe has announced the launch of a new  flight service connecting Harare and Lusaka, Zambia, starting next month. 

The service is set to commence on April 9, 2025, offering increased connectivity between the two countries.

The new route will have three flights per week and will be serviced by a 50-seater Embraer ERJ145 aircraft, which is known for its versatility and generous legroom.

In a statement, fastjet Zimbabwe business CEO and country head Donahue Cortes said travellers on the route would get early morning flights.

“No other airline gives travellers an early morning flight option on this route,” Cortes said.

“Our flight timings are designed to provide both business and leisure passengers with a full day’s activities in their city of arrival. 

“We continue to focus on developing and growing our business morning flight schedule and the Lusaka early morning departure joins other fastjet sunrise flights to Bulawayo and Johannesburg.”

Fastjet Zimbabwe, which began operations in 2015, has established itself as a reliable African airline, connecting major cities within Zimbabwe and offering international flights to South Africa.

Fastjet Zimbabwe spokesperson Nunurai Ndawana said the new route will go a long way in promoting the social and economic ties between the two countries.

"Zimbabwe and Zambia have a symbiotic relationship that cuts across multiple sectors,” Ndawana said.

“The introduction of this route attests to our commitment and contribution to further economic and social development of the Zimbabwe- Zambia region. 

“For 10  years, fastjet Zimbabwe has been a proud part of the Zimbabwean community and we are delighted to expand our commitment to Lusaka.”

 The airline's extensive network includes flights between Harare and Victoria Falls, Harare and Bulawayo, as well as international routes from Harare, Bulawayo, and Victoria Falls to Johannesburg, and from Victoria Falls to Mbombela (Kruger) Nelspruit Mpumalanga.

The airline has garnered numerous accolades, including multiple World Travel Awards and Skytrax World Airline Awards nominations. 

In 2024, fastjet Zimbabwe achieved the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registration, demonstrating its adherence to the highest operational and safety standards in the aviation industry.

With the launch of the Harare-Lusaka route, fastjet Zimbabwe aims to further strengthen its regional network and contribute to the economic and social development of the region.
