PLANS are underway to create alternative space for vendors following violent clashes between Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) and Zanu PF youths this week leaving a trail of destruction at vending sites near Mupedzanhamo Complex, one of the busiest areas in Mbare, Harare.

In an interview, Harare City Council spokesperson Innocent Ruwende said authorities are in the process of identifying space new market in efforts to decongest Mbare.

“Our small and medium enterprises recently toured prospective vending sites in Crowborough North, Mufakose, Glen View and Sunningdale. The city intends to construct proper and modern structures for our people to ensure that when the rains come they will be sheltered,” he said.

“What is happening in Mbare is very unfortunate and we urge all parties involved to maintain peace and order, the Mupedzanhamo saga requires an all stakeholder approach, stakeholders should come together and come up with an infrastructure, social and economic plan which serves the interests of all those who are involved,” Ruwende added.

Police confirmed the arrest of 13 people over the skirmishes.
