GOKWE’S St. Agnes Primary School are this year’s marimba champions following their splendid performance during the Tambarimba Marimba Arts Festival held recently, where they won a new public address system and pocketed R1 000 after a splendid run during which they outclassed 12 other primary schools.

The festival featured 13 primary and 12 secondary schools, with each band performing two pieces — one contemporary and one traditional song.
Chiremba Primary School, who came second, won a trophy and printer, while third-placed Gokwe CZM also clinched a trophy and huge traditional drum.
In the secondary schools category, Epworth High School, emerged winners after an energetic performance in the senior category, while Still Waters 1 and 2 were placed second and third respectively.
Tambarimba arts director, Don Chidavaenzi said this year’s event was successful despite economic hardships.
“I am very happy that the festival was successful despite the current economic difficulties. We were delighted with the turnout and we hope the festival will grow to become an international event,” he said.
Chidavaenzi expressed gratitude to their various sponsors, whom he said made the event successful.
