THE Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) has dismissed as fake, a purported top 100 Advanced Level schools’ list circulating on various social media platforms.

The list of the country’s purported best performing schools in the 2016 A Level final year examinations has been circulating on social media since Friday after the announcement of last year’s results by Primary and Secondary Education minister Lazarus Dokora.
Zimsec spokesperson, Nicky Dlamini, yesterday dismissed the list, as a hoax, saying government institutions do not post official information online, especially onWhatsApp.
“As an establishment, we would like to tell members of the public that we do not post information online, especially on social media platforms. If there is any information online, it is through our Facebook page or the institution’s website,” she said.
Dlamini said Zimsec stopped compiling the list of the top 100 A Level schools two years ago.
“The institution last published the top 100 schools’ list two years ago, so what is circulating is wrong, it’s a hoax and people should not take it seriously,” she said.
The unknown creators of the list are believed to be pulling a stunt, as a way of marketing schools, which do not even match the results, at the same time affecting schools that have managed to build their reputation over time.

According to the list, Monte Cassino Secondary School was rated as being the best with a pass rate of 83%, followed by Kriste Mambo, Nyanga High, St Dominic’s (Chishawasha), St David’s Bonda, Zimbabwe Republic Police and St Ignatius College.
Anderson, Regina Mundi and Knowstics Academy complete the list’s top 10 schools, while All-Souls and Mabelreign Girls’ High were rated as the worst performers.
