FORMER Mabvuku-Tafara MP, Timothy Mubhawu yesterday fled the court protesting against the provincial magistrate’s decision to have his trial proceed without his legal representative.

The former MDC-T legislator is facing contempt of court allegations after he allegedly chased his wife from their matrimonial home despite a court order issued against him at the civil court.
Mubhawu’s lawyer, Concellia Maheya is said to be attending to other commitments in Malawi and had asked Harare provincial magistrate, Vakai Douglas Chikwekwe for a postponement of the matter.
Chikwekwe then ordered Mubhawu to take to the witness stand, but the latter refused, saying he was contesting the order and had a right to legal representation.
However, Chikwekwe asked the court to adjourn for 10 minutes in order for Mubhawu to engage another lawyer for the trial to go ahead, but he took advantage of the adjournment and left the court in a huff.
When the 10-minute adjournment lapsed, prosecutor Chrispen Chikakfu instructed the court orderly to call Mubhawu outside the court three times, but he was nowhere to be found, prompting Chikwekwe to issue a warrant of arrest.
