The star-studied line-up of performers on the night included Mai Mwamuka, Victory sounds, Leslie Dudu Moyo, One Way to Heaven, Extreme Praises, Bongi Moyo, Anointed Voices and Nicole Chitsvatsva, who was the youngest performer.

Speaking to NewsDay on the side-lines of the show, concert organiser, Clarence Garura of Kira music said the show was meant to unite women.

“This show is the first of many, it has united female performers, who were disjointed in a male dominated industry. Women were not working together resulting in them not being recognised by fans and promoters,” he said.

“Tonight (Friday) we witnessed the power of teamwork as they shared instruments in solidarity of gospel music. I really thank the people of Bulawayo for coming in full force to support the women and that gives us reason to forge ahead. l believe Season Two will be bigger and better.” Garura said they were looking into taking the concept around Zimbabwe.

“We will be doing these concerts around the country in a bid to decentralise the genre and to broaden the market,” he said.

An excited Chitsvatsva, who performed the song Believe in me, said the show has motivated her to do more.

“This was my first time performing at such an event with a live band, I was nervous and scared, but I’m loving the experience, this has pushed me to work hard and incorporate instruments in my works,” she said.
