TOP model Shantell Makwiranzou who was set to represent the country at the Miss United Countries beauty pageant in Manila, Philippines on November 26 has stepped down over alleged unprofessional conduct, NewsDay can exclusively disclose.
Makwiranzou stepped down barely a month after she was crowned Miss United Countries Zimbabwe at a pageant held in February.
She clashed with the pageant organisers who accused her of violating a code of conduct that barred her from participating in any other modelling activity.
The beauty queen confirmed the developments but declined to divulge details.
Zimbabwe international beauty pageant director Culvin Mavunga said Makwiranzou violated their code of conduct by participating in a fashion show.
“We would like to protect our queens and our entity’s image so we regulate and assess every fashion show or event prior. This is imperative to us as some events may tarnish our image,” said Mavunga, adding that the model decided to quit voluntarily.
He said after she was crowned Miss United Countries Zimbabwe she was supposed to undertake various projects in line with her title and not participate in other related activities.

Following the fallout, the pageant organisers were forced to cancel the model’s scheduled public appearances at the International Women’s Day celebrations at the National Arts Gallery of Zimbabwe.
Two other models — Miss Valentine Zimbabwe 2016 Floret Chikomwe and Miss Grand International Zimbabwe Dion Cooper — were also ejected for the same reasons.
The two were set to represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Heritage International 2016 in Singapore and Miss Grand International in Thailand respectively.
Chikombwe was said to have participated in the Miss 21st February Movement pageant before teaming up with Makwiranzou at a fashion event.
