Tourism and Hospitality Industry deputy minister Anastancia Ndhlovu yesterday said the participation of the DRC in the carnival confirmed the strong ties between the country and Zimbabwe.

“We are proud to have the Democratic Republic of Congo, as the partner country as the two nations enjoy strong cordial and diplomatic relations. To affirm their support for the carnival, the government of the DRC brought into the country one of Africa’s finest rhumba musicians, Koffi Olomide and Lasonze cultural group,” she said.

“As the government we feel humbled and honoured by the continued coming of brotherly and sisterly countries to the Harare International Carnival. The number has continued to increase by each edition and this year we have 24 countries.”

Ndlovu said as the ministry in charge of tourism, they had made an undertaking to continue investing in policies that advance the growth of the tourism sector.

“We are fully cognisant that the carnival is still in its infancy, but we remain optimistic that if guaranteed the support it is currently getting from both the public and private entities, it will sustainably grow to become a fundamental stimulus for sustainable socio-economic developments,” she said.

Olomide has promised fireworks tonight, When he shares the stage with local artistes among them Diamond Musica, BV Labien Musica, Madiz and Lady Storm.
