Bus owner Christina Taranhike said the accident occurred at the 40km peg from Lusaka when the driver lost control after a tyre burst.

The injured were rushed to Kafue Hospital while others were transferred to UTC Hospital in Lusaka.

It was not immediately clear how many passengers were on the bus.

Taranhike said the bus had left Zambia at 9:30am on Saturday heading to Harare.

Pictures of the horrific accident started circulating on social media platforms yesterday morning.

A year ago, former NewsDay news editor Mernat Mafirekurewa died on the spot when his car collided with a South Africa-bound King Lion bus along the Harare-Masvingo Highway.
