Harare City Council junior councillors have rallied their peers to manage their environment in a sustainable manner for the benefit of future generations.

Speaking during a clean-up campaign to mark the belated Day of the African Child celebrations in Buidiriro high-density suburb last Friday, junior mayor Ebenezer Nobela said the exercise was meant to raise awareness among youths on the importance of managing the environment.
“Environmental management is important in that it promotes a healthy living for both the present and future generations. As young people the future is in our hands and this involves taking charge of our own environment by ensuring that it is clean and hygienic,” said Nobela.
Nobela revealed that for the 2014-15 term, junior councillors were working on five thematic areas, namely road safety, charity, child development and mentorship, teenage behaviour change as well as adolescent sexual and reproductive health.
Budiriro junior councillor Elizabeth Vela said similar campaigns had been held in other suburbs like Glen Norah, Mufakose and Mabvuku-Tafara and there were positive outcomes in that people in those areas were now appreciating the importance of keeping their environs clean.
