His lawyer Jeremiah Bhamu said Maanda’s case would proceed by way of summons.
“Maanda was called by police where his warned-and-cautioned statement was recorded from him. He is charged with obstructing the course of justice and police said they will call him back if they need anything,” Bhamu said.
Maanda is representing six Mbada Diamonds employees, who recently sued Home Affairs minister Kembo Mohadi, Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri, Assistant Commissioner Mvere, Chief Superintendent Alison Nyamupaguma, Detective Inspector Jachi and Detective Inspector Nyoni for alleged torture.
The six also filed a High Court application demanding back their vehicles which were confiscated by police following their alleged fallout with Mutare-based Indian diamond dealer Mudassar Khan.
Police are alleging that Maanda influenced the six to disown their earlier statements implicating Khan and to claim that they were tortured to make false confessions.
The State alleges that Khan bought top-of-the-range vehicles for the employees after they facilitated illegal diamond deals for him.
