A Mutare-based member of the Presidential Guard Stanley Mlambo has been ordered to perform 140 hours of community service at a local school for punching a police officer during a scuffle.

Mlambo was convicted on his own plea of guilty of assaulting Constable Vengai Paraffin when he appeared before magistrate Charles Murowe on Thursday.
The court initially slapped him with an eight-month jail term but later suspended the custodial term on condition he performs 140 hours of community service at Shereni Primary School in Dangamvura suburb.
Public prosecutor Shepherd Chavarika told the court that on November 28 this year, Paraffin found Mlambo and a commuter omnibus conductor quarrelling over an undisclosed matter at a city rank and intervened in a bid to stop the argument.
In a fit of rage Mlambo, who is a member of President Robert Mugabe’s security team, punched Paraffin’s forehead inflicting a deep cut on him. As a result, Paraffin was rushed to Mutare Provincial Hospital for medication.
